In Loving Memory of Jon Rivera: A Beloved Pillar of the Long Island Theatre Community

The Long Island theatre community is mourning the profound loss of Jon Rivera — a man whose presence on and off the stage left an indelible mark on countless lives. Jon was not only a gifted performer but a true embodiment of what it meant to live a life filled with passion, purpose, and heart. His legacy will continue to echo in every standing ovation, every curtain call, and every Impossible Dream pursued by those he inspired.

Jon was — and always will be — a staple in our community. His artistic journey brought him into the hearts of many through his unforgettable performances, and his impact stretched far beyond the spotlight. Over the years, Jon was a cherished part of CM, serving as a dedicated staff member, a compassionate mentor, and, above all, a trusted friend. His tireless contributions helped shape CM into the vibrant and nurturing space it is today.

Whether mentoring a young actor finding their voice or leading by example with his unwavering dedication to his craft, Jon gave everything to the stage and the people who filled it. He understood that theatre was more than entertainment — it was a vehicle for truth, transformation, and connection. His spirit, his voice, and his kindness resonated with everyone fortunate enough to share a rehearsal space, dressing room, or heartfelt conversation with him.

In the final slides of our tribute, you’ll see Jon’s final bow on the SPAC stage — a poignant reminder of the grace, strength, and artistry he brought to each performance. That bow is more than a farewell. It is a legacy. It is a testament to a life well-lived and a passion fearlessly followed.

As we navigate the weight of this loss, let us also remember that we do not carry it alone. Grief is not a solitary journey, and neither was Jon’s path. Tonight, from 6PM to 8PM, we invite members of the Long Island Theatre Community to join us at the theatre for an open house vigil — a space for collective mourning, shared memories, and celebration of the man Jon was and the inspiration he continues to be.

Jon Rivera was the kind of person who chased the Impossible Dream — not just in song or performance, but in life. He believed in the power of imagination, perseverance, and love. That belief lives on in each of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

We will continue to tell the stories, to sing the songs, and to raise the curtain — because that is what Jon would have done. And somewhere, just beyond the footlights, we’ll feel him cheering us on.

Rest in eternal peace, Jon. Your final bow was not the end. It was only the beginning of the legacy you leave behind.
