In Loving Memory of G’Kiyah Lewis
The community of Malden and Mattapan is grieving after the heartbreaking loss of 18-year-old G’Kiyah Lewis, who tragically passed away following the triple shooting that occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, on Hiawatha Road in Mattapan. What began as a call to District B-3 officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert quickly unfolded into yet another painful reminder of how gun violence continues to tear families, friendships, and communities apart.
Just 18 years old — a young woman barely stepping into adulthood, filled with promise, hope, and dreams for her future — G’Kiyah was one of three people shot that afternoon. Though she fought long and bravely for nearly a month, on Friday, November 7, 2025, her life came to a heartbreaking end in the hospital. While the two male victims continue to recover from their injuries, G’Kiyah’s family is now left with a void that can never be filled.
G’Kiyah was more than a name in a headline. She was a daughter, a friend, a classmate, a loved one whose presence brightened the lives of those around her. She had a smile that could lift the mood of a room, a voice full of life, and a heart full of compassion. Those who knew her talk about her kindness, her laughter, her dreams, and the future she wanted to build for herself and those she cared for. Her life was just beginning — and it should have continued.
Her passing is a loss far beyond her family. It is a loss felt by classrooms, friend groups, neighborhoods, and every young person who saw themselves in her. She should have had the chance to grow, to learn, to explore, to become, to live. Now, her story becomes a reminder of the urgent need to protect our youth, uplift our communities, and stand together against the violence that continues to steal so many bright, beautiful lives.
The Boston Police Department Homicide Unit continues to search for answers and for those responsible. No arrest has been made, and the investigation remains active. This means the community’s voice matters now more than ever. To anyone who saw, heard, or knows anything — your courage could bring justice for G’Kiyah. Even a small detail could be the one piece needed to move this case forward.
