In Loving Memory of Gavin Lohr Forever in Our Hearts
It is with deep sorrow that we remember the life of Gavin Lohr, a 19-year-old from Huntingdon County, whose journey ended far too soon following a tragic crash on Interstate 79 in Lawrence County on Sunday, October 19. Gavin’s passing leaves a void that words cannot fill — in his family, his circle of friends, and in the community that watched him grow up with so much promise.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident occurred around 9:46 p.m. near mile marker 110 in Plain Grove Township. Gavin was traveling north in his 2001 Honda Civic when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with a tractor-trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 27-year-old man from Brampton, Ontario, was not injured. Portions of the highway were closed for several hours as emergency responders worked tirelessly to manage the scene — including PSP Mercer, Slippery Rock Fire Rescue, East End Volunteer Fire Department, Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, Mercer Auto Wreckers, PennDOT, and the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.
While reports can describe the facts, they cannot capture who Gavin truly was — a young man full of life, curiosity, and kindness. He was someone who had dreams, laughter to share, and people who loved him deeply. At just 19, he was at the threshold of so much possibility — a future that would have no doubt been filled with learning, growth, and adventure.
Those who knew Gavin will remember his energy and warmth — the way he could light up a room with his smile, his humor, and his easygoing nature. He had a genuine heart that cared for others and a spirit that reflected both innocence and determination. Friends recall him as someone always ready to lend a hand, to offer encouragement, or simply to listen.
In moments like this, words feel too small. A young life, full of potential, has been taken suddenly — and the ache of that loss will linger in the hearts of all who loved him. But amid the heartbreak, there is also gratitude: gratitude for the memories shared, for the laughter that will echo in stories told for years to come, and for the way Gavin’s presence made others feel seen and valued.
May Gavin’s loved ones find comfort in one another and in the community that surrounds them. May they hold close the reminder that even though his time on earth was brief, the love he gave and the impact he made will endure. His life, though short, was meaningful — a light that will continue to shine in the hearts of those who carry his memory forward.
Rest peacefully, Gavin Lohr.
You will never be forgotten.
