In Loving Memory of Firefighter/Paramedic Bradley Howell — A Hero, Husband, Father, and Friend

It is with profound sorrow that the Maryland Heights Fire Protection District announces the untimely passing of Firefighter/Paramedic Bradley Howell, who tragically left us at the age of 41. A dedicated public servant, Brad devoted his life to protecting others, saving lives, and exemplifying the very best of what it means to serve one’s community.

Brad Howell’s journey in public safety began with Pettis County EMS, where he first answered the call to help others in times of crisis. From there, he served with distinction at DePaul Hospital, the Metro North Fire Protection District, and ultimately for the past nine years with the Maryland Heights Fire Protection District, where he became a beloved colleague and a valued member of the fire service family.

Throughout his career, Brad demonstrated not only exceptional skill and professionalism but also a deep sense of compassion and selflessness. His heroic efforts during emergency responses earned him three Unit Citations, a reflection of his courage, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to public safety. Whether responding to structure fires, medical emergencies, or catastrophic incidents, Brad always gave his all — not for recognition, but because of the calling he felt to serve.

Beyond his uniform, Brad was a deeply devoted husband, father, son, and brother. He leaves behind his loving wife, Kim, and their children: Hannah, Alexis, John Carter, Logan, and Mabrie, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his parents, Maynard and Joy Howell, and his siblings: Brian (Kristin), Katelyn (Josh), and Jolie (Manasseh). To his family, Brad was not just a hero in the streets — he was a rock, a role model, and a source of unconditional love and strength.

The entire Maryland Heights Fire Protection District stands in mourning, united in grief and remembrance. Brad’s presence will be deeply missed in the firehouse, where his laughter, leadership, and calm presence under pressure became a guiding force for so many.
