In Loving Memory of Derek Antonio Chattanooga, Tennessee — 2025

The Chattanooga community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Derek Antonio, a beloved son, friend, and colleague who was found deceased recently. His passing has left countless hearts heavy, as those who knew him struggle to understand and accept the sudden silence left in the space he once so warmly filled.

Derek was known for his strong work ethic, his determination to grow in his craft, and the genuine kindness he extended to those around him. He worked as a Welder Fitter at Astec Industries, Inc., where he was respected for both his skill and his dedication. Welding is not just a trade—it is precision, patience, discipline, and pride—and Derek embodied all of those qualities. His coworkers recall his dependability, his ability to bring calm to difficult days, and the way he always made others feel welcome in his presence.

His commitment to his profession did not stop at the workplace. Derek pursued studies in CBT: PID Welding & NDT Inspection, furthering his knowledge with a determination that spoke to his ambition and belief in self-improvement. He received his qualification from Chattanooga State Community College, a place where he worked hard, built friendships, and continued to shape the path he walked.

Before that, Derek attended Tyner Academy, where he formed many of the bonds that lasted throughout his life. He was remembered there as someone who carried himself with quiet confidence, someone who could make others feel seen without ever needing to say much. He had a calming presence, a steady nature, and a heart that cared deeply.

Derek lived his life in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a city that shaped him and that he, in return, left his mark upon. He was part of a close circle of family and friends who admired his loyalty, appreciated his support, and loved him for exactly who he was. He enjoyed laughter, shared memories, and the simple pleasures of life that become the most precious in hindsight.

Those who knew him speak most of his kindness — how he treated others with respect and sincerity, how he listened, how he cared. He had a way of being present, of making others feel valued and understood. His loss is not only deeply personal but profound in the lives of many.

The world is quieter without him.

The days feel different.

There is an absence that cannot be filled.

Yet, in remembering Derek, we find comfort in the life he lived:

The friendships he built.

The work he excelled in.

The dreams he pursued.

The love he shared.

His story does not end with his passing — it continues in the hearts of those who will never forget him.

To his family, we send our deepest love and strength.

To his friends, may you hold his memory close.

To the community around him, may we honor him by living with kindness, just as he did.

Rest in eternal peace, Derek Antonio.

Your journey here may have ended, but your love and your light will remain forever.
