In Loving Memory of CJ Fiefia & Xylie Hutchinson Forever Remembered, Forever Missed

The Cache Valley community is grappling with an unimaginable loss as two bright young souls, 17-year-old CJ Fiefia of Avon and 14-year-old Xylie Hutchinson of Hyrum, tragically passed away following a devastating two-vehicle crash Saturday night in Providence. What was meant to be an ordinary evening for a group of friends became a moment that forever changed families, friends, classmates, and an entire community.

On a quiet stretch of South SR-165, near 1815 South, five teenagers were traveling together in a Toyota Corolla — a car filled with music, laughter, and the carefree energy that defines youth. In an instant, that carefree night turned tragic when the vehicle lost control, skidding into the far southbound lane. A Toyota Sienna, traveling southbound, struck the Corolla on the passenger side, causing the smaller car to roll and come to rest upside-down.

Troopers, first responders, and bystanders acted swiftly, doing everything they could in a scene described as heartbreaking and chaotic. Three of the teens were thrown from the vehicle or managed to escape before paramedics arrived. Two others, including CJ, were trapped and required extrication by emergency crews. Despite the valiant efforts of rescuers, CJ was pronounced deceased at the scene, his life cut short in a moment no one could have prepared for. His body was later transferred to the State Medical Examiner’s Office as the formal investigation continues.

CJ Fiefia, at just 17, was known as a kind-hearted, uplifting presence — the kind of young man who made an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether on the football field, in school hallways, or among his close-knit circle of family and friends, CJ carried a spirit of joy, resilience, and love. His absence leaves an empty space that words cannot fill, a space now held tenderly by the community that cherished him.

Meanwhile, Xylie Hutchinson, only 14, fought bravely through the night. Her mother, Kassaundra Hutchinson, shared that Xylie suffered severe head trauma and extensive injuries throughout her body. Despite the tireless work of medical teams, Xylie passed away Sunday morning at a trauma center, surrounded by love. She was a vibrant, sweet, and imaginative young girl — someone who lit up every room she entered and brought comfort, humor, and hope to those around her. Xylie’s gentle heart, radiant smile, and joyful spirit will forever be remembered by those who knew her best.

Three other teenagers remain in critical condition in Salt Lake and Ogden trauma centers, held closely in the community’s prayers as they continue their battle toward recovery. Their families wait anxiously, surrounded by love, as doctors work to give them every chance possible.

The five occupants in the Toyota Sienna — two adults and three children — suffered minor injuries. All were wearing seat belts or secured in car seats, and thankfully, each is expected to recover physically. Troopers report no signs of impairment from either driver, with speed currently being investigated as the likely primary factor.

The crash forced the closure of SR-165 for more than four hours as troopers and multiple assisting agencies — including the Logan Police Department, Logan Fire Department, and Cache County Sheriff’s Office — worked diligently to investigate the scene and provide care to all involved.

Now, as Cache Valley sits in collective grief, hearts turn to honoring the lives of CJ and Xylie — two young people taken far too soon, leaving behind memories cherished beyond measure. They were children, siblings, friends, teammates, classmates — irreplaceable individuals whose futures held promise, whose presence held meaning.

CJ and Xylie leave behind families who loved them fiercely, friends who will forever carry their laughter and stories, and a community that has come together to mourn, support, and hold one another in the wake of this tragedy.

Funeral arrangements for both teens are currently pending, as their families navigate unimaginable sorrow and decisions no parent should ever face.

As the community lights candles, gathers in vigils, and wraps its arms around grieving families, CJ and Xylie’s lives remain vivid in the hearts of all who knew them — a reminder of how precious and fragile life is, and how deeply a person can be loved in just a short time on this earth.

May their memories be a blessing. May their families find strength.

And may CJ Fiefia and Xylie Hutchinson rest in eternal peace.
