In Loving Memory of Cindy Lewis

NEW ERA, Mich. — With profound sorrow and broken hearts, the Lewis family, the staff of Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo, and the entire Oceana County community are mourning the tragic and sudden passing of Cindy Lewis, 56, who died following a tragic accident on the morning of July 4, 2024. Cindy, the beloved co-owner of Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo, passed away on July 6 after succumbing to injuries sustained when she was struck by a vehicle in the farm’s parking lot before opening hours.

A Sudden Tragedy

At approximately 7:46 a.m. on the Fourth of July, the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a personal injury accident at Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo in New Era, Michigan. According to authorities, Cindy was struck by a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old employee and fellow New Era resident as she was entering the farm’s parking lot. The employee, who was cooperating fully with the investigation, did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Investigators believe the driver simply did not see Cindy.

Cindy suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was first transported to Trinity Health-Muskegon, where medical teams worked urgently to stabilize her condition. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was airlifted to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where she ultimately passed away on July 6, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

The incident remains under review and has been turned over to the Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

But more than the attractions, it was Cindy’s presence—her smile, her generous heart, her welcoming nature—that kept guests returning year after year.
