In Loving Memory of Amya Elizabeth Haas: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon
The Indianapolis community is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of Amya Elizabeth Haas, a vibrant and compassionate 22-year-old whose life was tragically cut short when she drowned in Eagle Creek Reservoir on July 24, 2025. Known for her kindness, creativity, and unwavering drive to help others, Amya’s passing leaves a deep and painful void in the lives of her family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew her.
Amya was a woman of many talents and passions. As a lifeguard and swim instructor, she dedicated herself to ensuring the safety and confidence of others in the water. Her presence at the pool was more than professional—it was calming, encouraging, and filled with a joyful energy that made learning to swim not just safe, but fun. Parents trusted her, children adored her, and her colleagues respected her not just for her skill, but for the love she brought to her work.
She was also an aspiring pharmacy technician, taking steps toward a career where she could continue helping others, this time through healthcare. Amya believed deeply in the importance of healing—of supporting those in need, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Her natural empathy made her a perfect fit for a path that required patience, diligence, and compassion.
Outside of her work and studies, Amya was a gifted artist. Through painting, drawing, and digital design, she found a way to express the depth of her emotions and the richness of her imagination. Her artwork often reflected themes of resilience, nature, and human connection. It served as a window into her heart—a heart that was as deep and beautiful as the images she created.
Amya’s warmth extended beyond her talents. She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend. Her smile lit up rooms, her laugh was contagious, and her presence had a way of making people feel like they belonged. She never hesitated to offer a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or a helping hand. Her generosity wasn’t grandiose—it was woven into the small, consistent acts of care that touched so many lives.
Those closest to Amya describe her as fearlessly authentic—never afraid to be herself, to stand up for what she believed in, or to love others wholeheartedly. Her life, though far too short, was lived with purpose, intention, and passion. She left a lasting impact on those around her, reminding us all of the power of empathy and the importance of living fully in each moment.
As we gather to remember Amya, we also hold space for grief, for the aching absence she leaves behind, and for the countless dreams that will now live on in memory. A memorial service will be announced soon, offering a time for loved ones and the wider community to celebrate her life, her spirit, and the enduring love that binds us to her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Amya’s name to local water safety programs or youth art initiatives—causes that reflect her passions and continue the legacy of a young woman who gave so much of herself to others.
Rest in peace, dear Amya. Your life was a gift. Your memory will be a blessing. And your light will continue to shine in every ripple, every brushstroke, and every heart you touched.
