In Loving Memory Of Aajion Wright, 16 “Gone Too Soon, Never Forgotten”

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A community is in mourning after the tragic and senseless death of 16-year-old Aajion Wright, who was fatally shot late Thursday night in what authorities have confirmed to be a homicide. The shooting occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on October 9, 2025, in the 100 block of Warwick Avenue, located within the 14611 ZIP code area of Rochester.

The Rochester Police Department (RPD) responded after a ShotSpotter system detected six rounds fired in the nearby 100 block of Wellington Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered Aajion lying unresponsive in a driveway on Warwick Avenue. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal injury to the chest. Officers immediately rendered aid and called for emergency medical services. Despite their efforts and those of paramedics, Aajion was pronounced dead at the scene.

RPD officers quickly secured the area, marking evidence and locating several shell casings scattered near the scene. The department’s Command Van and Forensic Unit were requested as detectives began their investigation into what led to this heartbreaking act of violence.

While details remain under investigation, the department confirmed that Aajion was the only victim in the incident. Additional officers were later dispatched to the hospital to support any potential witnesses or family members arriving in shock and grief.

A Life Full of Promise

To those who knew him, Aajion Wright was far more than a name in a police report. He was a vibrant, kind-hearted, and energetic 16-year-old, known for his bright smile, quick humor, and gentle spirit. Friends describe him as someone who could make anyone laugh, no matter the situation — a young man with dreams, potential, and a heart full of love for his family and friends.

Aajion was deeply loved by his community and was often seen spending time with friends, playing basketball, or helping out at home. Teachers and classmates remember him as a student with a big personality and a bigger heart — someone who could turn strangers into friends and bring warmth to even the coldest days.

Those close to him say he had aspirations of graduating high school and pursuing a career that would make his family proud, possibly in sports or music — two of his greatest passions. His life, filled with promise and hope, was cut short before he ever had the chance to see those dreams fulfilled.

A Family and Community in Mourning

The Wright family is now faced with an unimaginable loss — the death of their beloved son, brother, and grandson. Family members describe Aajion as the “light of the family,” a young man who loved deeply and cared endlessly for those around him. His sudden passing has left a void that words cannot fill.

Neighbors and community members have since gathered near the scene, placing candles, flowers, and photos in a growing memorial that serves as both a tribute and a call for justice. Grief and frustration run deep as residents reflect on the continued toll of gun violence on Rochester’s youth.

“This shouldn’t keep happening,” one neighbor said through tears. “Aajion was just a kid. He had his whole life ahead of him.”

Community leaders and advocates have echoed those sentiments, calling for unity, accountability, and renewed efforts to address the root causes of violence that continue to claim young lives far too soon.

Seeking Justice

As the Rochester Police Department continues its investigation, detectives are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help bring answers and accountability for Aajion’s grieving family.

Those with information can contact the RPD Major Crimes Unit or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (585) 423-9300.

“This was a young life lost senselessly,” an RPD spokesperson said. “Someone out there knows what happened, and we are asking for the community’s help to bring justice for Aajion and his loved ones.”

Remembering Aajion

In his short 16 years, Aajion Wright left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his laughter, his kindness, and the light he brought into every room. Though his life was taken far too soon, his spirit will continue to live on through the memories of those who loved him most.

As the city grieves another young life lost, his name joins far too many others — a painful reminder of the work that remains to ensure that every child can grow up safe, free, and full of hope.

“No parent should have to bury their child. No community should have to keep lighting candles for its youth. Aajion’s light will never fade — it will continue to shine through every act of love, every call for peace, and every step taken toward a safer future.”

The hearts of an entire community go out to the Wright family during this unimaginable time. May they find comfort in their memories, strength in one another, and peace in knowing that Aajion’s life mattered — and will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Aajion Wright.
Forever 16. Forever loved.
