In Loving Memory: Lance Thornhill Funk Devoted Husband and Beloved Community Member 1950 – 2025

With heavy hearts and deep reverence, we announce the passing of Lance Thornhill Funk, who departed this life on July 10, 2025, after a courageous and dignified battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A cherished husband, loyal friend, and pillar of his community, Lance was 75 years old.

Born in 1950, Lance grew up with strong values of compassion, hard work, and faith—principles that guided him throughout his life. He was the kind of man who shook every hand, remembered every name, and always had time to lend a hand or share a story. His presence was reassuring, his laughter infectious, and his heart open to all.

Lance was a devoted husband of 52 years to his beloved wife, Margaret, who remained faithfully by his side through every twist and turn of life, including the long, slow goodbye that Alzheimer’s brings. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love—a quiet, steady flame that warmed not only their home but also all who witnessed it. Margaret was Lance’s anchor, his advocate, and his greatest joy. Theirs was a love built on laughter, deep respect, and unwavering commitment.

Lance was also a father, grandfather, and friend whose impact on others reached far beyond the walls of his own home. He raised his children with wisdom and humility, always modeling integrity and kindness. He believed in doing things the right way, even when it wasn’t the easy way. Whether volunteering at church, serving on the town council, or simply helping a neighbor fix a fence or move a heavy box, Lance was the embodiment of quiet leadership.

Professionally, Lance was respected for his years in the agricultural and ranching community, where he worked tirelessly and honestly. He had a deep respect for the land and a passion for nurturing growth—whether in fields, livestock, or people. His word was his bond, and he earned the admiration of those who worked with him not by shouting the loudest, but by showing up, day in and day out, with humility and excellence.

When Alzheimer’s began to steal pieces of him, Lance faced the disease with the same strength and grace that defined his life. Even as his memory faded, the essence of who he was remained: a gentle man with kind eyes, a quiet strength, and a soul that recognized love, even when words escaped him.

Throughout his illness, Lance’s family, friends, and caregivers surrounded him with dignity, devotion, and deep affection. Their love helped carry him when the road became difficult, and their stories will carry him forward, etched in the hearts of all who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lance’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the local hospice organization that supported him with such care and compassion in his final months.
