Heather Dutchak Obituary: In Loving Memory of a Devoted EMT and Compassionate Soul
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Heather Dutchak, a deeply respected and cherished member of the Alberta Health Services family and a devoted Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Heather passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of selfless service, quiet strength, and unwavering compassion for others.
A dedicated healthcare professional, Heather Dutchak served as an EMT with Alberta Health Services (AHS) for several years, becoming a trusted and beloved colleague among paramedics, nurses, physicians, and first responders across the province. Her calm demeanor under pressure, her quick thinking, and her deep empathy made her a natural in her role—someone who brought hope, comfort, and life-saving care to countless people during their most vulnerable moments.
Born and raised in Alberta, Heather had always been drawn to helping others. Even as a child, she was known for her nurturing nature and willingness to go above and beyond for anyone in need. That innate calling led her to pursue a career in emergency medical services, a path she followed with courage, purpose, and extraordinary commitment.
Heather’s colleagues often speak of her professionalism on the job, her readiness to take the lead when lives were on the line, and her ability to bring calm to chaotic situations. Off duty, she was just as dedicated—a mentor to new EMTs, an advocate for mental health in the first responder community, and a loyal friend who never failed to lift others up.
Beyond the uniform, Heather was so much more. She was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and community member. Known for her quick wit, warm smile, and generous heart, she had a way of making everyone around her feel seen, heard, and cared for. Whether it was lending a hand at a local charity event, organizing a team BBQ, or simply being there when someone needed to talk, Heather gave fully and freely.
Her passing leaves an immeasurable void—not only in the emergency services community, but in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Heather is survived by her loving family, who supported her unconditionally through every shift, every call, and every challenge that came with her calling. She also leaves behind a wide circle of friends, coworkers, and community members who will forever hold her memory close.
A public Celebration of Life will be held in the coming days, where friends, family, and fellow first responders will gather to honor her memory, share stories, and reflect on the impact Heather made during her all-too-short but incredibly meaningful life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to mental health support organizations for first responders, a cause Heather deeply cared about and actively supported.
Though her watch has ended, Heather Dutchak’s legacy will continue to live on in every life she touched, every life she helped save, and in the enduring spirit of service and compassion that defined her.
Rest in peace, Heather. Thank you for your service, your strength, and your heart.
