Heartbreak in Drew: Mother and Two Daughters Killed in Triple Homicide; Three Suspects Identified
DREW, MS — The small Delta town of Drew, Mississippi is reeling from a devastating act of violence that claimed the lives of a mother and her two daughters in what authorities are calling a targeted triple homicide. The victims, Aquilla Wallace, 40, and her daughters, Kamaya Sims, 19, and Bromeshia Sims, 18, were discovered deceased inside Wallace’s home on Joseph Street on Thursday.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community, where family ties run deep and violence of this magnitude is nearly unheard of. The Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department, along with multiple local agencies, has launched a full investigation into the incident.
According to Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood, law enforcement identified three suspects connected to the killings. Following a coordinated manhunt, officers located the suspects in the nearby area of Rome, Mississippi. A foot pursuit ensued, leading to the apprehension of two individuals without incident. The third suspect, however, tragically ended his own life by firearm before he could be taken into custody, after officers had surrounded him.
While the names of the suspects have not yet been publicly released, authorities confirmed that all three were known to the victims. Officials are continuing to investigate the motive behind the killings, and Sheriff Haywood indicated that the crime did not appear to be random.
“This is one of the most senseless and heartbreaking crimes we’ve ever seen in Sunflower County,” said Sheriff Haywood in a press briefing. “A mother and her two daughters, full of promise and life, taken from us far too soon.”
Remembering Aquilla, Kamaya, and Bromeshia
Friends and family describe Aquilla Wallace as a devoted mother, a kind neighbor, and a strong woman who was deeply committed to her daughters’ success. She worked multiple jobs over the years to provide for her family and was known in her neighborhood as someone who looked out for others.
Her daughters, Kamaya and Bromeshia, were recent high school graduates with bright futures ahead of them. Kamaya had recently enrolled in a local college with aspirations of becoming a nurse, while Bromeshia was exploring opportunities in cosmetology and fashion. Both were described as intelligent, funny, and full of potential.
“They were good girls,” said a neighbor tearfully. “They didn’t deserve this. None of them did.”
Photos of the family, shared by friends on social media, show three smiling women who appeared inseparable—laughing at birthday parties, attending school events, and enjoying everyday moments together. Their sudden and violent deaths have left an irreplaceable hole in the community.
A City in Mourning
