Heartbreak in Brusly: Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of 17-Year-Old Margaret “Maggie” Dunn

The community of Brusly, Louisiana, continues to mourn the tragic loss of 17-year-old Margaret “Maggie” Edline Dunn, who passed away. Maggie was a vibrant and beloved junior at Brusly High School, known for her academic excellence, cheerleading, and active participation in various school organizations. 

Maggie’s life was cut short in a devastating car crash involving an Addis Police officer during a police pursuit on New Year’s Eve. Her best friend and fellow cheerleader, Caroline Gill, also lost her life in the accident. Maggie’s brother, Liam Dunn, sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized. 

Described as a friend to all she met, Maggie’s zest for life was unmatched. She never missed an opportunity to make a joke, danced like no one was watching, and laughed without hesitation. Her smile could illuminate the darkest of rooms, and her warmth was felt by all those lucky enough to cross her path. 

Funeral services for Maggie were held on January 13, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Following the Mass of Christian Burial, she was laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Mausoleum in Brusly. 

Maggie is survived by her parents and their spouses, Randall and Chantel Dunn, Erin Delcambre Martin and Kenny Wayne Martin; siblings, Victoria “Tori” Hill, Liam Dunn, Gemma Dunn; step-sibling, Devyn Samson; grandparents, Jeannine Bujol Dunn, Richard “Dickie” and Mary Beth Smith Delcambre; step-grandparents, Paul Distefano, Lisa Kember, Kenny Wayne Sr. and Wanda Martin; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and dearest friends, Abby Rizer and Brooklyn Bourque. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Roger Dunn Sr., and dear friend, Caroline Gill. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice in Maggie’s honor. Her legacy of kindness, joy, and unwavering spirit continues to inspire all who knew her.
