Hart County Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of Shelby Haynie Following Single-Vehicle Accident
Hart County, GA — July 13, 2025 — With heavy hearts, we report the heartbreaking tragedy that unfolded on July 13, 2025, when a routine summer evening turned into an unimaginable nightmare for one Georgia family and an entire community.
At approximately 6:45 PM, deputies from the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, alongside Hart County Fire and EMS, responded to a call for a single-vehicle crash in the vicinity of 3500 Montevideo Road. Due to the severity of the incident, neighboring Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, along with their Fire and EMS departments, also rushed to the scene to assist in the emergency response.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered a devastating sight — a Ford F-150 pickup truck overturned in a nearby field. The driver of the vehicle had managed to exit the truck and was outside when help arrived. However, the situation quickly turned more tragic when responders discovered a front seat passenger still entrapped inside the vehicle. Despite the immediate and determined efforts of emergency personnel, the passenger, identified as 16-year-old Shelby Haynie of Hart County, was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Georgia State Patrol was called in to assist and is currently leading the investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash. As of now, the investigation remains active, with authorities working diligently to determine the cause of this heartbreaking accident. No further details have been released at this time.
