Four Arrested in North Richland Hills Shooting That Killed Teen, Injured Bystander

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS – Four individuals, including one juvenile, have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on April 29, 2025, in North Richland Hills, according to police.

Incident Overview

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 29, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and a vehicle crash in the 8400 block of Emerald Hills Way. Upon arrival, officers found 17-year-old Alvin Ray Sweet of Watauga inside a black Honda Civic that had crashed into a parked vehicle. Sweet had sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

A second victim, a female bystander, was discovered near an apartment door with a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was also taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. Her identity has not been released.

Arrests and Charges

Between May 10 and May 12, police arrested two adults and one juvenile in connection with the shooting. A fourth suspect was taken into custody on May 12. The adult suspects have been identified as 17-year-old Ziquarius Taveon Burnette and 17-year-old Zackary Daniel Garza, both of North Richland Hills, and 18-year-old Oscar Macias of Haltom City. All three face charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Each is being held in the Tarrant County Jail with bond set at $2.5 million. The name and charges of the juvenile suspect have not been released.

Authorities believe the shooting was drug-related and that all four suspects were known to the victim. The investigation remains ongoing.
