Fort Lauderdale Police Investigate Tragic Shooting on Twin Lakes Boulevard: Two Dead, One Injured in Suspected Domestic Incident
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — A quiet neighborhood was shaken early Friday morning as Fort Lauderdale Police responded to a disturbing and deadly shooting on Twin Lakes Boulevard that left two people dead and one seriously injured. Authorities are treating the case as a possible domestic violence-related incident, further deepening the tragedy and community concern.
According to initial reports from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on Twin Lakes Boulevard shortly after 6:00 a.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a chaotic and harrowing situation.
Inside the home, two individuals—an adult male and an adult female—were found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. A third individual, also an adult female, was located nearby suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was immediately transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services and is currently receiving treatment. Authorities have not yet released her name, citing privacy concerns and the sensitivity of the situation.
Neighbors described the scene as surreal. “I heard what sounded like firecrackers—three, maybe four loud pops,” said a resident who lives just a few doors down. “Then sirens. A lot of them. It’s heartbreaking. This is a peaceful neighborhood, and now we’re all in shock.”
At this time, Fort Lauderdale Police have not released the identities of the deceased individuals pending notification of next of kin. However, investigators have confirmed that the individuals involved appeared to know one another, and that the shooting was not a random act of violence. Early evidence suggests the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute that tragically escalated into fatal gunfire.
Detectives spent the morning combing through the residence, speaking with neighbors, and collecting evidence. A police spokesperson confirmed that a firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.
“This appears to be a domestic-related incident, but we are still actively investigating all angles,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Department Public Information Officer, Sgt. Rebecca Martinez. “We’re working with the surviving victim and other potential witnesses to piece together exactly what occurred. Our hearts go out to the families impacted by this terrible act.”
Authorities have not indicated whether a suspect is currently being sought or if one of the deceased individuals may have been the shooter. While the community waits for answers, the ripple effects of the tragedy are being felt throughout the neighborhood and beyond.
Crisis counselors and victim services representatives have been made available to family members and nearby residents who were traumatized by the incident. Community leaders are urging residents to come together in support of one another during this difficult time.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis released a brief statement: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families affected by today’s tragic shooting. We stand with our community in mourning and will work with local authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.”
As the investigation continues, Fort Lauderdale Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
This heartbreaking event serves as yet another reminder of the devastating toll domestic violence can have on individuals and families. Resources are available for those in unsafe situations, including local shelters, hotlines, and mental health services.
Updates on the investigation will be shared as more information becomes available.
