Florence, KY — One Man Dead Following Officer-Involved Shooting at Amazon Facility
FLORENCE, Ky. — A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting that unfolded early Tuesday morning at and near an Amazon facility in Florence, Kentucky. According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), two deputies from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office discharged their firearms during the incident, resulting in fatal injuries to the unidentified man.
The situation began around 6:30 a.m., prompting a swift and substantial law enforcement response. Officers from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the Florence Police Department, and the Kentucky State Police converged on two distinct but related scenes—one on Empire Drive and the other on Industrial Road, the site of the Amazon warehouse.
Authorities confirmed that the man, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. As of now, the man’s identity and age have not been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin.
KSP spokesperson Trooper David Jones confirmed during a briefing that the deceased individual had no known ties to Amazon or its facility. He also stated that no deputies or law enforcement personnel involved in the incident were injured.
Despite the significant police presence and the involvement of an active workplace setting, the public was reassured that there is no ongoing threat. However, out of an abundance of caution and to preserve the integrity of the scene, trucks and other traffic were temporarily restricted from entering the parking lot at the Amazon distribution center on Industrial Road.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the events that led up to the shooting. It remains unclear what prompted the deputies to open fire, whether the man was armed, or if any confrontation preceded the gunshots. These unanswered questions are central to the ongoing investigation now being led by the Kentucky State Police.
Video footage from the scene shows a heavy police presence, including a dozen law enforcement vehicles at the Amazon facility and several more stationed on Empire Drive. Both areas remained secured as investigators collected evidence and interviewed potential witnesses.
In a written statement, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that “none of the deputies involved, nor any other personnel from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office or the Florence Police Department, who were assisting on scene, were injured.” The department has not released the names of the deputies involved, nor has it indicated whether they have been placed on administrative leave, which is common protocol in officer-involved shootings.
As the community seeks answers, officials are urging patience while the investigation continues. KSP has committed to a thorough review of the incident, including forensic analysis, interviews, and a full review of any available video footage.
This incident marks another serious moment in ongoing national discussions surrounding use of force and public safety, particularly when it intersects with locations where people work and gather.
The Kentucky State Police will provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, anyone with relevant information or who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the KSP or the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new details emerge.
