Female Deputy Terri Mashkow Killed, Two Others Shot While Serving Eviction Notice in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — A tragic shooting unfolded Friday morning in Indian River County, leaving one sheriff’s deputy Terri Mashkow dead and two others wounded during the service of an eviction notice, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred when deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence to carry out a court-ordered eviction.

During the service, the suspect reportedly opened fire, striking three deputies.

All three injured deputies were transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce.

Emergency response included multiple sheriff’s vehicles, as well as helicopters from both Martin County and St. Lucie County.

Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno confirmed that the responding deputies were conducting an eviction at the time of the shooting.
