The crash, which took place at approximately 4:01 a.m., happened at the intersection of East Bend Road (KY 338) and Possum Path Road in Burlington, Kentucky. According to investigators, the vehicle involved was a 2009 Ford Focus driven by Matthew Combs, 48, of Burlington, KY. Combs was traveling westbound on East Bend Road near Possum Path when he failed to properly negotiate a right-hand curve. The car crossed into the opposing lane before exiting the roadway on the left side. After leaving the pavement, the vehicle continued downhill, colliding with a utility pole and overturning onto its right side. The Ford Focus ultimately came to rest blocking both lanes of the roadway.
