Fatal Shooting in Love Field Neighborhood: Dallas Police Identify Victim and Suspect
DALLAS, TX — The Dallas Police Department has released the identities of both the victim and the suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday afternoon, July 26, 2025, in the Love Field neighborhood. The incident, which has left a community shaken and a family devastated, unfolded in broad daylight and is now under active investigation by homicide detectives.
According to authorities, officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 2:45 p.m. in the 6900 block of Lemmon Avenue, not far from the bustling commercial corridor surrounding Dallas Love Field Airport. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency responders immediately rendered aid and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but despite life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Augustin Espinosa, a Dallas resident. Police say Espinosa was known in the area and described by neighbors as a hard-working man who largely kept to himself. His sudden and violent death has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, where gun violence is relatively rare in such a high-traffic zone.
Authorities quickly began canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing nearby surveillance footage, which reportedly captured portions of the altercation leading up to the shooting. Through witness statements and investigative leads, police identified the alleged shooter as 43-year-old Robert Simmo, also of Dallas.
According to the preliminary investigation, Espinosa and Simmo were involved in an altercation that escalated quickly and tragically. While the nature of their relationship and the motive remain under investigation, police have confirmed that the two men were acquainted in some capacity prior to the incident. Detectives are currently working to determine whether the shooting was premeditated or occurred in the heat of the moment.
Simmo was apprehended at the scene without incident and taken into custody. He has since been charged with murder and is being held at the Dallas County Jail pending arraignment. Additional charges may be filed depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
The Dallas Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the case to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or has video footage from the area between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
“This is a heartbreaking incident that has taken a life and deeply impacted a family,” said DPD spokesperson Officer Tonya Harris. “We are committed to a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.”
Meanwhile, friends and family of Augustin Espinosa are mourning his untimely death. A small memorial of flowers and candles has been placed near the site of the shooting, as neighbors gather to support one another and remember a man whose life ended far too soon.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming days as police continue to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
