Fatal Motorcycle Crash on LA 339 Claims Life of Thibodaux Man
LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. – Officials are actively investigating a tragic two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred early yesterday morning on Louisiana Highway 339, near its intersection with Simon Road. The collision resulted in the death of one individual and left another injured.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash claimed the life of Dustin Ayo, 42, of Thibodaux. Ayo was reportedly operating a 2025 Suzuki motorcycle at the time of the incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2013 Nissan Sentra was traveling northbound on LA 339 while Ayo was traveling southbound on his motorcycle at what officials described as a “high rate of speed.” For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Nissan attempted to make a left turn onto Simon Road and entered the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
The resulting collision was severe. Ayo’s motorcycle struck the Nissan on the passenger side, leading to catastrophic damage. Tragically, Ayo was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The driver of the Nissan, whose identity has not yet been released, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As per standard procedure, officials collected routine toxicology samples from both drivers. These samples have been submitted to the crime lab for analysis to determine whether impairment may have been a factor in the crash.
State troopers remained on the scene for several hours following the incident, redirecting traffic and documenting evidence. The crash brought attention once again to the dangers of rural highway intersections, especially when high speeds and turning vehicles are involved.
No charges have been filed at this time, and authorities emphasize that the investigation remains ongoing.
This fatal crash adds to the growing concern among traffic safety advocates regarding motorcycle-related deaths in Louisiana. Riders and drivers alike are urged to remain vigilant, especially at intersections where visibility and timing are critical.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information is encouraged to contact Louisiana State Police Troop I as the investigation continues.
