Fatal Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of 23-Year-Old Rider on South Canton Avenue
On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, tragedy struck on Tulsa’s South Canton Avenue when a reckless motorcycle ride ended in a fiery and fatal collision. Authorities say the crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. in the 7100 block of S. Canton Avenue, drawing multiple 911 calls from witnesses who reported a motorcycle ablaze and its rider trapped beneath a vehicle.
According to police, the rider—later identified as 23-year-old Ashton Meyer—had been seen speeding down 71st Street, weaving in and out of traffic, and performing dangerous stunts such as wheelies. Witnesses recounted that as Meyer approached a vehicle attempting a turn in front of him, he attempted to lay his bike down on its side in a desperate maneuver to avoid a direct collision.
Despite his efforts, the motorcycle struck another vehicle, causing the gas tank to rupture and ignite in flames. The impact ejected Meyer from the bike and pinned him beneath a different vehicle involved in the crash. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, battling both the fire and the chaotic aftermath of the collision.
Meyer was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The drivers of the other two vehicles involved sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. Police have stated that, at this stage of the investigation, no criminal charges are expected against those drivers.
Tulsa Police Department’s Advanced Traffic Investigators continue to examine all evidence, including skid marks, witness statements, and vehicle damage, to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the deadly crash.
Officials emphasized that this tragic incident underscores the dangers of reckless motorcycle operation. While motorcycles are capable of high performance and agility, improper and risky riding behaviors can quickly lead to devastating consequences.
Community members who witnessed the crash described the scene as “chaotic” and “heartbreaking,” noting the sheer speed and recklessness moments before the collision.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge all drivers—motorcyclists especially—to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and prioritize safety over thrill-seeking maneuvers.
