EDEN, NC — The City of Eden is grieving after a tragic crash on Thursday afternoon that claimed the lives of four men and left two others seriously injured. The devastating incident unfolded when a City of Eden dump truck reportedly ran a stop sign and plowed into a crew of utility workers carrying out roadside maintenance.
Authorities have identified the four victims who tragically lost their lives as Douglas Garland Sides, Madison Carter, William Evans, and Matthew Lockwood. Two other workers, Hunter Carter and Kevin Alexander, sustained critical injuries and were transported to nearby trauma centers, where they continue to receive medical care.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Stadium Drive and Pierce Street, a usually quiet area now marked by sorrow and disbelief. According to investigators, the city-operated dump truck failed to stop at a posted stop sign before veering off-course and striking the group of workers. The men were performing contracted utility work in the area at the time.
