Chicago Rapper Parkay ButtaBoy Fatally Shot in Englewood: Community Mourns Tragic Loss

Chicago’s music community is mourning the tragic loss of local rapper Parkay ButtaBoy, who was fatally shot on Monday morning in the Englewood neighborhood. The 42-year-old artist was inside a vehicle in the 6600 block of South Sangamon Street around 11 a.m. when an unidentified individual approached and opened fire, according to Chicago police reports. Parkay sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Parkay ButtaBoy, whose real name has not been disclosed, was a prominent figure in Chicago’s hip-hop scene, known for his lyrical prowess and contributions to the city’s vibrant musical landscape. His untimely death adds to a series of violent incidents that have plagued the Englewood area in recent months. For instance, in December 2024, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the chest while standing near the sidewalk in the 5900 block of South Sangamon Avenue.  Similarly, in April 2024, another man was found in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head inside a parked vehicle in the 7200 block of South Sangamon Avenue.

The Englewood community has been grappling with escalating violence, prompting calls for increased safety measures and community engagement to address the root causes of such incidents. The loss of Parkay ButtaBoy not only leaves a void in the local music industry but also underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts to stem the tide of violence affecting Chicago’s neighborhoods.
