Charles County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal UTV Crash in Port Tobacco

Port Tobacco, Md. — The Charles County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Operations Unit is investigating a tragic UTV crash that claimed the life of a young woman and left the driver hospitalized late Friday night.

The Crash

On September 5, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 7600 block of Carol Road in Port Tobacco after receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a utility task vehicle (UTV).

The initial investigation determined that the UTV was traveling eastbound on Carol Road when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered off the roadway. The vehicle then struck multiple fixed objects and an embankment before finally coming to rest.

Victims Identified

The driver of the UTV, a 30-year-old male, sustained injuries in the crash. He was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment, and authorities have confirmed that his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Tragically, the passenger, identified as 27-year-old Gabrielle Wareham of Port Tobacco, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her sudden loss has sent waves of grief through her family, friends, and the Port Tobacco community.

Investigation Ongoing

Detectives with the Traffic Operations Unit continue to examine the circumstances that led to the crash. While no official cause has yet been determined, investigators are working to assess factors such as speed, driver impairment, roadway conditions, and mechanical issues.
