Brooklyn Hit-and-Run Tragedy: Pregnant Woman Killed After Fender Bender in Bed-Stuy
Family mourns the loss of Tiffany Cifuni, 32, who was expecting her first child
Brooklyn, NY — What began as a joyful evening ended in unimaginable tragedy late Saturday night, when 32-year-old Tiffany Cifuni was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Tiffany, who was in the early stages of her pregnancy, had just attended a Beyoncé concert and was on her way home when her life was suddenly and violently cut short.
The fatal incident occurred just before midnight at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Marcus Garvey Boulevard, following what authorities describe as a minor traffic collision between Tiffany’s SUV and a maroon Chevrolet sedan.
A Joyful Night Turns Tragic
According to police and witnesses, Tiffany’s vehicle was trailing closely behind the suspect’s car when the two were involved in a fender bender. Tiffany stopped, exited her vehicle, and approached the driver’s side of the Chevy to presumably exchange information or assess the situation. She was standing adjacent to the driver’s window when the situation turned deadly.
Without warning, the female suspect suddenly accelerated, striking and dragging Tiffany as she sped off in the wrong direction up Marcus Garvey Boulevard. The suspect continued recklessly through oncoming traffic on Lafayette Avenue, where she collided with several parked vehicles before abandoning her car and fleeing the scene on foot. Police are now actively searching for the driver and have launched a full investigation.
A Family Devastated
The heartbreak of Tiffany’s loss has left her family in shock and grief, especially as she was pregnant with her first child.
James Cifuni, Tiffany’s husband, received the devastating news early Sunday morning.
“They had just hit us with that news two weeks ago, and she was so proud of the fact that she surprised me and buckled my knees with the news,” said Nick Cifuni, James’ father and Tiffany’s father-in-law.
The family had been celebrating the beginning of a new chapter, filled with love, anticipation, and hope. Tiffany’s joyful spirit and infectious energy had made her the “rockstar of the family,” Nick added, describing her as someone who radiated warmth and strength.
“We’re interested in getting justice and in this person getting caught,” he continued.
Tiffany’s mother-in-law, Barbara Cifuni, described her as:
“The most loving, caring, patient — animal lover, beautiful person.”
A Final Moment
Security footage and witness accounts confirm that the entire interaction between Tiffany and the suspect lasted only 52 seconds — less than a minute between a routine accident and a senseless act of violence that claimed two lives: Tiffany’s, and that of her unborn child.
A Community in Mourning and a Call for Justice
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Bed-Stuy community and beyond, with an outpouring of grief and support for the Cifuni family. Neighbors, friends, and even strangers have left flowers and candles at the scene of the crash, calling for accountability, safety, and justice.
Police are urging anyone with information — including those who may have dashcam footage or security camera footage in the area around the time of the crash — to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
As investigations continue, the Cifuni family is left to grapple with an unbearable loss — the loss of a beloved daughter-in-law, a joyful mother-to-be, and a woman whose future was full of promise and purpose.
Rest in peace, Tiffany Cifuni.
May your memory be a blessing, and may justice soon follow your tragic and untimely departure.
