Body Found in Rochester Elementary School Parking Lot; Police Investigating Possible Suicide

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a tragic discovery after a woman was found dead in the parking lot of McGregor Elementary School in Rochester on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the school grounds near Livernois and Walton Blvd. shortly after 3:00 p.m., where they located the body of an adult woman inside a vehicle parked in the lot. Authorities immediately secured the area while ensuring the safety of students and staff still present at the school. Officials confirmed that no children or employees were harmed during the incident.

Aerial footage from MDN captured the scene, showing law enforcement vehicles, firefighters, and a cordoned-off car surrounded by investigators. Notably, what appeared to be dry ice was spotted near the vehicle, raising initial concerns about a possible chemical hazard.

Although police have not officially released the cause of death, early indications suggest the incident may have been a suicide. Investigators are awaiting further forensic analysis before confirming additional details.

To address community concerns, the Rochester Community Schools district issued a statement Wednesday evening around 7:00 p.m. The district emphasized that the matter was unrelated to the school community and confined to a single parking space.

“Earlier today, local police investigated a situation unrelated to the school community that was confined to a parking space at McGregor Elementary School. The area has been cleared. All students and staff are safe. Classes will continue at McGregor Elementary on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025. It appears rumors were circulating about a chemical leak. Local law enforcement has confirmed that the rumors are false, and that at no time was any member of our school community at risk of being harmed,” the statement read.

The clarification comes after speculation circulated online about a potential hazardous materials situation on school property. Authorities reiterated that there was never a risk to the public or to those on campus.

The name of the deceased woman has not yet been released, pending notification of her family. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the case remains under investigation.

This incident has left the Rochester community shaken, highlighting the need for mental health awareness and support in times of crisis. Counselors are expected to be available for students and staff who may be affected by the news.
