At Least Three Dead, Five Injured in Shooting Outside El Camaron Gigante in Glendale
GLENDALE, Ariz. — A quiet Sunday evening erupted into chaos when a mass shooting broke out outside El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse, leaving at least three people dead and five others injured in what authorities are describing as one of the deadliest incidents in recent Glendale history.
The incident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. on May 4 at the popular dining spot located near the intersection of 57th and Glendale Avenues. The restaurant, known for its seafood and family-friendly atmosphere, was reportedly crowded with patrons enjoying dinner when gunfire rang out, sending customers and employees scrambling for cover.
Glendale Police arrived at the scene within minutes of the first 911 calls, met by a scene of chaos — broken glass, overturned tables, and wounded victims lying on the pavement. Emergency medical personnel began treating victims at the scene before transporting them to nearby hospitals. Of the five injured, several are said to be in critical condition.
Authorities say the shooting may have been triggered by a confrontation during an event known as “OASA – On A Sunday Afternoon,” a recurring gathering that often brings together local community members and music fans. Witnesses described a heated argument that escalated quickly, followed by the sound of multiple gunshots.
One of the alleged shooters was reportedly armed with a rifle-style weapon. Surveillance footage and witness accounts have led police to release a description of at least one suspect: a Latino male with long brown hair, wearing a red hat, red shirt, and dark jeans. It remains unclear whether the suspect acted alone or if there were multiple shooters involved.
The scene outside El Camaron Gigante remained cordoned off through the night as investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses. Police have not confirmed if any suspects have been detained, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Social media exploded with images and video from the aftermath, some showing the chaotic moments immediately following the gunfire. The hashtag #OASA began trending locally, with many users expressing shock and grief over the violence at what was supposed to be a peaceful event.
“This is a tragedy that has shaken our community,” said a spokesperson for the Glendale Police Department during a late-night press briefing. “We are committed to finding those responsible and bringing justice to the victims and their families.”
As of Monday morning, names of the deceased have not been released pending notification of next of kin. A temporary memorial has begun to form outside the restaurant as mourners bring candles, flowers, and messages of support.
