Akron Police Arrest Woman Following Stabbing Incident Near Summa Health
AKRON, Ohio — Akron Police responded to a stabbing incident on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m. in the 500 block of East Market Street, across from Summa Health Akron. The incident left a 23-year-old woman injured and led to the arrest of a suspect at the scene.
The Incident
According to authorities, officers arriving at the scene observed a Summa Health Police Department officer providing emergency aid, applying pressure to the victim’s wounds on the sidewalk. The victim had sustained multiple stab wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities report that her injuries, while serious, are not believed to be life-threatening.
Altercation on Metro Bus
The investigation revealed that the incident originated from a dispute between two female passengers aboard a Metro bus. After the bus stopped, the women exited, and the situation escalated outside the vehicle.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Chavella Dorris, reportedly charged toward the victim and stabbed her multiple times. Police recovered a box cutter from Dorris’ purse, which is believed to have been used in the assault.
Arrest and Charges
Dorris was interviewed by Akron Police officers at the scene and subsequently taken into custody. She has been charged with Felonious Assault and is currently being held at Summit County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
