Dexter Woman Killed in Early Morning Crash on I-94 in Scio Township

SCIO TOWNSHIP, MI — A tragic single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning claimed the life of a 47-year-old woman from Dexter, Michigan, according to the Michigan State Police.

The fatal accident occurred around 5:15 a.m. on May 24 along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Jackson Road in Scio Township, just west of Ann Arbor. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Brighton Post were dispatched to the scene after receiving an automated crash notification from Ford Motor Company, which utilizes in-vehicle crash detection systems to alert emergency responders when a collision is detected.

Upon arriving at the location, state troopers found a severely damaged vehicle off the roadway. Investigators believe the vehicle, driven solely by the Dexter woman, veered off I-94 and crashed, though the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation. No other vehicles were involved.

Emergency medical personnel who responded to the crash confirmed the woman had died from her injuries at the scene. Her name has not yet been released pending family notification.

Authorities have not released details regarding the vehicle’s speed, road conditions, or possible impairment, but they have indicated that foul play is not suspected at this time. Investigators are currently working to determine whether mechanical failure, driver fatigue, or medical issues may have played a role in the accident.

The early morning crash prompted a temporary closure of portions of I-94 as troopers conducted a thorough on-site investigation and cleared the wreckage. Traffic was diverted for several hours, causing some delays in the area, though normal traffic flow was restored later in the morning.

This tragic incident marks yet another fatal crash on Michigan roadways as the summer travel season begins. With Memorial Day weekend approaching, law enforcement officials are urging drivers to remain vigilant, avoid distractions, and take all necessary precautions when behind the wheel.

The Michigan State Police also reminded the public of the benefits of advanced crash notification systems like those used by Ford Motor Company. Such systems can be critical in rapidly deploying emergency services, especially in single-vehicle crashes that may not be witnessed by others.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further information may be released as it becomes available. The Michigan State Police extended their condolences to the victim’s family and urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the vehicle before the accident to contact the Brighton Post.

As Scio Township and surrounding communities absorb the news of the loss, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike on the road—even in the early morning quiet.
