South Side Altercation Turns Deadly: Man Fatally Shot in Greater Grand Crossing
CHICAGO, IL — A heated argument escalated into deadly violence late Sunday night when a man was fatally shot on the city’s South Side, police said.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Normal Avenue, located in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. Officers were dispatched to the area after receiving a call about a person who had been shot.
Upon arrival, they found a 40-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the victim had been engaged in a verbal altercation with a man known to him before the confrontation turned violent. The suspect, who has not been identified publicly, reportedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire, striking the victim several times.
Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, the man later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
