Martins Ferry, OH – March 18, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Gary Alexander, who passed away peacefully at the age of 64 in his residence on March 18, 2025. Known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family and country, William’s loss leaves a void that will be felt by all who knew him.
A Life of Service and Dedication
William proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he demonstrated a sense of duty and patriotism that defined his life. His time in the military shaped him into a man of integrity, strength, and resilience. He often spoke with pride about his service, cherishing the bonds he formed with his fellow soldiers and the lessons he learned during his time in uniform.
In addition to his service to his country, William’s deep sense of loyalty and devotion extended to his family. He was the loving father of Cory and Jacob, and his greatest joy in life was spending time with his sons. William instilled in them the values of hard work, perseverance, and kindness, always leading by example. He took immense pride in watching his children grow into the individuals they are today, and his love for them was immeasurable.
A Passion for Sports and Life’s Simple Pleasures
Outside of his work and service, William was a devoted fan of both the WVU Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, two teams that he followed with great enthusiasm and pride. He could often be found watching their games, cheering them on with a passion that matched his love for the sport. His friends and family knew that game days were special occasions for William, and his energy and excitement were contagious.
William’s love for sports was just one of many aspects of his vibrant personality. He was also a man who loved the simple pleasures in life—whether it was enjoying a quiet afternoon with his family, sharing stories with friends, or working on projects around the house. His down-to-earth nature and ability to find joy in the little things made him someone everyone could count on for support, laughter, and companionship.
A Man of Character and Compassion
Known for his generosity and compassion, William touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path. He was always there for those in need, offering a listening ear, a helping hand, or words of encouragement. His sense of humor and positive attitude were hallmarks of his personality, and he had an incredible ability to make people feel at ease.
His kindness extended beyond his immediate circle of family and friends; William was someone who cared deeply about his community and was always ready to lend a hand where needed. Whether it was volunteering his time or simply offering a word of advice, William made a lasting impact on those around him.
Cherishing the Legacy of a Beloved Father and Friend
William’s passing leaves a deep sense of loss, but his legacy of love, strength, and dedication will live on in the memories of those he touched. His sons, Cory and Jacob, will carry forward the lessons he taught them—how to be strong, how to love fiercely, and how to approach life with integrity and grace.
While William is no longer with us, his spirit and influence will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. His family, friends, and all those who were touched by his life will always remember him with fondness and admiration.
A Celebration of Life
A memorial service to celebrate William’s life and honor his memory will be held at a later date, where family, friends, and loved ones will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears in remembrance of a man who brought so much joy to their lives. The family asks that those who wish to honor William’s legacy consider making donations to veteran support organizations in lieu of flowers, a cause that was important to him throughout his life.
Rest in Peace, William
To his sons, Cory and Jacob, and to all who loved him, may you find comfort in knowing that William’s love will continue to surround you. His strength, kindness, and devotion to his family will never be forgotten, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
