Rockford Man Charged With First-Degree Murder After Fatal Shooting Outside Local Liquor Store
ROCKFORD, Ill. — A tragic shooting early Friday morning has claimed the life of a 19-year-old Rockford man, with police now charging a local resident with first-degree murder in connection to the incident.
According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were notified shortly after midnight that a gunshot victim had arrived at a local hospital. The victim, later identified as Ethan Austin, was suffering from critical injuries sustained in a shooting. Despite efforts by medical staff, Austin succumbed to his wounds shortly after arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from an altercation that escalated into violence. Authorities say the confrontation occurred in the parking lot of Broadway Food & Liquor, located at 2710 Broadway, a well-known corner store in the area.
