Remembering Kevin Diers: A Beloved Voice of KISW and the Seattle Music Scene
This week, KISW and the entire Seattle music community mourn the loss of one of our own. Kevin Diers, a cherished member of the KISW family, passed away—leaving behind a legacy of passion, dedication, and an unforgettable voice that championed the heart of the Pacific Northwest’s heavy music scene.
Kevin’s journey with KISW began like something out of a rock-and-roll dream. After winning a contest to host Metal Shop alongside his friend and co-host Ian Reas, Kevin stepped behind the mic and into the hearts of listeners who would come to know him as much more than a DJ. He wasn’t just a voice on the radio—he was a curator, a connector, and most of all, a true fan. Kevin went on to host Loud & Local, where he dedicated himself to spotlighting emerging local talent and amplifying the pulse of Seattle’s underground metal, punk, and hardcore scenes.
With an unmatched enthusiasm, Kevin became a leading figure not just at the station, but in the broader cultural fabric of Seattle. Whether he was championing a new local band, headbanging at a basement show, or talking passionately about his love for professional wrestling, Kevin brought energy and heart to everything he did. He was a tireless supporter of the music and the people who made it, someone who saw potential and beauty in the raw, the loud, and the real.
The loss of Kevin Diers is felt deeply by all of us at KISW. His impact extended beyond the airwaves. Musicians, fans, and fellow broadcasters have shared their memories—of his kindness, his humor, and his genuine care for the community he served so loyally. He wasn’t just a host. He was a brother, a mentor, and a relentless advocate for the scene he loved.
To honor Kevin’s legacy, KISW will be airing special tribute episodes of Metal Shop and Loud & Local this weekend. These episodes will feature some of Kevin’s favorite moments, the bands he believed in, and the music he loved with every fiber of his being. We’ll also share stories from those who knew him best—fellow hosts, artists, friends, and fans—because remembering Kevin is about more than mourning. It’s about celebrating a life lived fully, loudly, and with uncompromising authenticity.
Seattle has lost one of its strongest voices, but Kevin’s spirit will echo through the amps and speakers for years to come. His voice, his taste, and his belief in the power of music made a lasting difference. And for that, we are forever grateful.
Rest in power, Kevin. You were one of a kind.
