CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) has arrested 41-year-old Adam Salazar in connection with the fatal shooting of his older brother, 45-year-old Abraham Salazar, in what authorities are calling a tragic domestic dispute.
The incident unfolded Monday night in the 4900 block of Cain Drive, a residential neighborhood located in the south-central part of the city. Officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9:00 p.m. following reports of gunfire and a disturbance inside the home. Upon arrival, officers discovered Abraham Salazar suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the altercation began as a heated argument between the brothers and quickly escalated into violence. According to CCPD, evidence gathered from the scene and witness statements point toward a domestic-related dispute that turned deadly. The exact nature of the dispute has not yet been disclosed, but authorities have confirmed that the two men lived together or had close family ties in the area.
Detectives with the CCPD’s Criminal Investigations Division worked through the night to gather evidence, interview neighbors and relatives, and secure the crime scene. Based on the information obtained, they identified Adam Salazar as the primary suspect in the shooting. He was taken into custody without incident early Tuesday morning and is currently being held at the Nueces County Jail.
“Any loss of life is tragic, but it’s especially heartbreaking when it involves family members,” said CCPD spokesperson Senior Officer Gena Peña. “This case is a reminder of the dangerous potential of domestic disputes, and we urge anyone experiencing conflict in the home to seek help before it escalates.”
The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, prosecutors are expected to file formal charges against Adam Salazar, including murder or manslaughter, pending further investigation.
Residents in the normally quiet neighborhood expressed shock and sadness over the incident. Many reported hearing a loud argument followed by what sounded like a single gunshot. One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said, “They always seemed like regular guys. I never imagined something like this would happen right next door.”
CCPD continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting and has asked anyone with additional information to come forward. Crime Stoppers may offer a reward for tips leading to a conviction.
As the community mourns the sudden loss, family members are left grappling with the grief and complexities of a tragedy that has shaken their household and sent ripples throughout the neighborhood.
