Candace McAllister, 35, of Toledo, Severely Injured in Motorcycle Crash at Perrysburg Holland-Sylvania and Heatherdowns Blvd Intersection
TOLEDO, Ohio — A Sunday evening motorcycle crash at a busy South Toledo intersection left 35-year-old Candace McAllister of Toledo, Ohio, with severe injuries, prompting a swift emergency response and ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
The crash occurred on May 4, 2025, at approximately 7:55 p.m., at the intersection of Perrysburg Holland-Sylvania Road and Heatherdowns Boulevard, a heavily trafficked area known for high vehicle flow and complex traffic patterns.
According to officials from the Toledo Police Department, McAllister was operating a motorcycle when the crash took place. Preliminary reports suggest she was traveling northbound on Perrysburg Holland-Sylvania Road when another vehicle, believed to be turning left from Heatherdowns Boulevard, entered the intersection. The two vehicles collided, throwing McAllister from the motorcycle and onto the pavement with force.
First responders from Toledo Fire & Rescue were on the scene within minutes. Witnesses reported that bystanders rushed to McAllister’s aid before emergency crews arrived, with some using jackets to shield her from the pavement and others calling 911.
McAllister sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including fractures to her legs and arms, and suspected internal injuries. She was transported via ambulance in critical condition to The University of Toledo Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery late Sunday night. As of Monday morning, she remains hospitalized, and her condition has been described as serious but stable by family members.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, whose name has not been released, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police have not confirmed whether drugs, alcohol, or excessive speed played a role in the collision, though they stated that a full traffic reconstruction is underway.
The intersection where the crash occurred has been the site of several previous accidents over the years. Local residents and businesses have long expressed concerns about visibility issues, poor signage, and the difficulty of navigating turns during peak traffic hours.
“This is a terrible accident, and our thoughts are with the woman who was hurt,” said Lt. Brian Moore of the Toledo Police Department. “We’re conducting a thorough investigation to determine what exactly led to the collision, and whether any charges will be filed.”
Family and friends of McAllister have described her as an experienced rider and an active member of the local motorcycle community. A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to help cover her medical expenses and long-term recovery, as supporters rally around her.
The intersection was closed for several hours following the crash as investigators examined the scene and collected evidence, including vehicle debris, surveillance footage from nearby businesses, and eyewitness statements. It reopened shortly after midnight.
Toledo Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashboard camera footage of the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
