In Loving Memory of Joanne Dunaway: A Legacy of Vision, Service, and Love for Beattyville

It is with deep sadness and heartfelt respect that we announce the passing of Joanne Dunaway, a true pillar of the Beattyville community and a driving force behind the creation and growth of the Beattyville Main Street/Downtown Beattyville Alliance. Joanne’s passing leaves a significant void not only in our organization, but in the very heart of the city she loved so deeply.

Joanne was more than a community leader—she was a visionary. Her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the betterment of Beattyville played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Main Street program. She believed in the power of a thriving, connected downtown and worked diligently to bring that vision to life. Her leadership and insight were instrumental in shaping the identity and mission of our organization from its earliest days.

Many of us on the current Main Street board were first inspired to get involved through Joanne’s encouragement and example. Her warm spirit, welcoming nature, and tireless passion for community service drew people in and fostered a sense of purpose and pride. Those who had the privilege of serving alongside Joanne over the years can attest to her infectious enthusiasm and her steady, thoughtful approach to problem-solving and planning.

One of Joanne’s most enduring contributions was her involvement in the early phases of the Beattyville streetscape initiative. Her ideas and influence helped lay the groundwork for the charming and welcoming Main Street we enjoy today—a place that reflects the character and values she held dear. From sidewalk enhancements to beautification projects, her fingerprints can still be seen in the details that make our downtown such a vibrant and inviting place for residents and visitors alike.

But Joanne’s legacy goes far beyond the physical transformation of our Main Street. She leaves behind a spirit of service, a deep love for community, and a standard of leadership rooted in compassion and commitment. Her contributions touched countless lives, and her impact will be felt for generations to come.

During this time of loss, our thoughts and prayers are with Joanne’s family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know and work alongside her. May they find comfort in knowing how deeply she was respected, admired, and loved by the community she served so faithfully.

We are forever grateful for Joanne Dunaway’s life, her vision, and the indelible mark she left on Beattyville. Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we work to carry her dream forward, one project, one block, and one heart at a time.

Thank you, Joanne. You will be dearly missed and always remembered.
