SAGINAW POLICE INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE ON CITY’S WEST SIDE
Community Reeling After Deadly Shooting Claims Life of Michael Wayne Carroll

SAGINAW, MI — April 30, 2025 — A quiet Wednesday evening on the city’s west side was shattered by gunfire, leaving one man dead and another injured in a shooting that police are now investigating as a homicide. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Saginaw community, as authorities work to piece together what led to the violence.

At approximately 6:11 p.m., officers from the Saginaw Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of South Michigan Avenue following multiple reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adult male victims, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services quickly arrived at the scene and transported both men to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Tragically, 41-year-old Michael Wayne Carroll, a resident of Saginaw, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The second victim, a 66-year-old Saginaw man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently listed in stable condition, according to officials.

The Saginaw Police Department, in collaboration with Michigan State Police detectives assigned to the Major Crimes Unit, is actively investigating the shooting. Officers spent the evening canvassing the area for evidence, speaking with residents, and reviewing any available surveillance footage.

As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made, and the identity of any potential suspect or suspects remains unknown. Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, heard anything unusual in the area, or who has any information related to the case, to come forward.

“This is a tragedy, and we’re doing everything in our power to find answers for Mr. Carroll’s family and to bring whoever is responsible to justice,” said a spokesperson for the Saginaw Police Department.

Michael Wayne Carroll’s death marks yet another act of senseless violence in a community already grappling with broader concerns about public safety. Friends and family have begun posting tributes on social media, remembering Carroll as a devoted father, a neighbor with a kind heart, and someone who didn’t deserve to die so young.

Community leaders and anti-violence advocates are once again calling for unity and cooperation with law enforcement. “We need to come together, not just when tragedy strikes, but every day to prevent this kind of violence,” said one local pastor. “Michael’s life mattered, and we cannot let his death be in vain.”

Authorities stress that anyone with information, no matter how small, can make a difference. Tips can be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-5245. Information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.

As the investigation continues, the Saginaw Police Department says it will remain in close contact with Carroll’s family and the community, and further updates will be shared as they become available.

This remains a developing story, and police are asking residents to remain vigilant, but reassured the public that there is no immediate threat to the community stemming from the incident.

Michael Wayne Carroll’s memory now lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him—and in a city still struggling to understand how such a tragic act could happen in their own backyard.
