Obituary: Jonathan Michael Coker

Griffin, GA — The Griffin community is mourning the loss of Jonathan Michael Coker, 39, who passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, in Monroe County. Jonathan’s sudden passing has left a hole in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Early Life and Background

Jonathan, known to friends and family as Michael, was born on February 19, 1986, in Newnan, GA, to Richard Coker and Renee (Neil) Henderson. From an early age, Michael exhibited the warmth, kindness, and generosity that would define his life. He was known as someone who would always go out of his way to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear. Michael was the type of person who loved with an open heart and was a friend to all who crossed his path.

Professional Life

Michael was a skilled Steel Fabricator with Marino/Ware Manufacturing, where he worked diligently and earned the respect of his colleagues. His hard work, attention to detail, and dedication to his craft were apparent in every project he took on. He was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to work well under pressure, always striving to do his best in everything he did.

Faith and Community

Michael was a member of New Seasons Worship Center in Dry Branch, GA, where he found a sense of belonging and spiritual fulfillment. His connection to his faith was important to him, and he cherished the support and fellowship he received from his church family. Michael’s love for people, his infectious spirit, and his genuine heart were qualities that endeared him to everyone who knew him. He was a constant source of joy, and his presence was felt deeply by those around him.

Family and Legacy

Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sweet and Molly Bass, and his paternal grandparents, Russell and Shirley Coker. He was also preceded in death by his bonus father, Tim Smith, and bonus mother, Rhonda Coker. Despite these losses, Michael’s strength and resilience shone through in his relationships with his family and friends.

He is survived by his father, Richard Coker; mother, Renee (Neil) Henderson; his newfound love, Miranda Nicole; his brothers and sisters, Daron Warner, Richard (Crystal) Coker II, Jessica McElwaney, Tobie (Tabitha) Coker, and Dustin (Emily) Smith.

Michael was also a proud father to his sons, Ashton Royals and Ayden Royals, and his daughter, Alexis Bennett. He will be dearly missed by his nephews, Sammy Warner, Austin Warner, Jordan Trask, Chase White, Ethan Coker, and Jacob Coker; his nieces, Alissa Sims, Jacy McElwaney, Lacy White, Kenlee Smith, and Rylee Smith; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and compassion.

Funeral Services

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at New Seasons Worship Center in Dry Branch, GA. The service will be officiated by Pastor Wesley Bridgers and Pastor Douglas Campbell. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, where Michael will be laid to rest beside his loved ones.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on the same day, prior to the service at the church.

Remembering Michael

Michael’s legacy is one of kindness, loyalty, and love. He lived his life with the biggest heart and touched everyone he met with his compassion and generosity. His loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who knew him. As we say goodbye, we remember a man who gave so much to others and left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him.
