Man Critically Injured in Shreveport Shooting Stemming from Domestic Dispute; Suspect in Custody
SHREVEPORT, LA — A violent confrontation in the Broadmoor neighborhood Thursday afternoon has left a man in his 30s with life-threatening injuries following a shooting outside a residence on Greenway Place. Authorities say the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute and has once again highlighted the dangers of domestic conflicts escalating into violence.
According to Cpl. Chris Bordelon of the Shreveport Police Department, officers responded to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. following multiple reports of gunfire near the intersection of Akard and Fern avenues. The shooting occurred at the home of a woman reportedly involved with both the suspect and the victim.
Police quickly secured the scene, with twelve Shreveport police units responding to the incident. A man was found in the street, severely wounded. Witnesses reported seeing one of the men involved in the altercation running before collapsing. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His identity has not yet been released.
Cpl. Bordelon confirmed that the suspected shooter is in police custody. While the gunman’s name has not yet been released, authorities expect to share more information with the public within the next several hours. The motive, according to investigators, appears to be a confrontation between the current and former boyfriends of the woman residing at the house.
Neighbors Describe the Chaos
Residents of the normally quiet Broadmoor neighborhood were left shaken. “It was terrifying,” said one neighbor. “We heard shouting and then several loud pops. When we looked outside, we saw one man running and then falling to the ground.”
Police cordoned off the area for several hours Thursday evening as detectives canvassed the scene, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Officers were seen going door to door, asking neighbors for any security footage or information that could help clarify what led up to the shooting.
Domestic Dispute Turns Dangerous
Authorities believe the confrontation began as a domestic-related dispute that quickly spiraled out of control. Police say domestic incidents involving new and former partners can often become volatile, especially when emotions are high and tensions remain unresolved.
“We see this more often than we’d like,” said one detective on the scene. “Personal disputes, especially those tied to relationships, can become deadly in an instant. That’s why it’s so important for people to seek help or intervention before violence erupts.”
Ongoing Investigation
As of Thursday night, police continue to investigate the shooting, piecing together what transpired and preparing potential charges for the suspect in custody. While the community waits for updates, many are expressing concern over the rise in violence and the emotional toll it takes on neighborhoods like Broadmoor.
