Jean Ndakebuka Identified as Victim of Fatal Industrial Accident at ProCon in Appleton
On March 12, 2025, a tragic industrial accident at Progressive Converting (ProCon) in Appleton, Wisconsin, claimed the life of 44-year-old Jean Ndakebuka. The Outagamie County coroner confirmed that Ndakebuka, a forklift operator at the facility, died at approximately 1:40 p.m. following an incident involving forklift operations.
Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ndakebuka resettled in the United States as a refugee in 2021. He initially worked as a driver for a meat processing company in Iowa before moving to Appleton in October 2023. In 2024, he secured employment at ProCon, where he was known for his dedication and hard work.
Ndakebuka was the sole provider for his family, leaving behind his wife, Kobwa Nyatutsi, and six children. Friends and community members have rallied to support the family during this difficult time, establishing a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and daily living costs.
ProCon management expressed their condolences, stating, “Our primary concern at this time is to ensure that the needs and well-being of the family of the affected employee are met.” They are collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has initiated an investigation, which may take up to six months to complete. The Appleton Police Department is also involved in examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Ndakebuka was remembered by friends as a friendly individual, a devout Christian, and a loving father who enjoyed playing soccer. His untimely passing has left a significant void in the community, highlighting the importance of workplace safety and the need for continued vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future.
