Charles Edward Gantt Jr., 40, tragically lost his life in what has become Little Rock’s 19th homicide case of 2025. Gantt, a Black male, had recently sought legal protection by filing for an Order of Protection against Kaylin McElwee.
Gantt’s life was a blend of perseverance and community involvement. A graduate of J.A. Fair Systems Magnet High School in Little Rock, he was known for his dedication to academics and extracurricular activities. Even after graduating, he remained actively engaged in his community, regularly volunteering his time to support local initiatives.
Prior to his death, Gantt had taken legal steps to seek protection from Kaylin McElwee. McElwee, an ordained minister based in Little Rock, has been involved in community outreach programs, including founding the dance team “Daughters of Christ” and leading “Speak Your Truth Ministries.” The details of their relationship and the circumstances that led to the protection order remain under investigation.
