In Loving Memory of Grace Elizabeth Nevens: A Tribute to a Bright Soul

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Grace Elizabeth Nevens, a cherished daughter, sister, and friend, who tragically died by suicide in November 2024 at the age of 22. A resident of Morpeth, Northumberland, Grace’s unexpected departure has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her.

Grace was a remarkable young woman whose life was marked by academic excellence and a deep commitment to helping others. She graduated with a first-class degree in psychology from Leeds University earlier that year and was an active member of the Leeds Athletics Society. Her passion for mental health advocacy led her to volunteer for the charity Mind’s Befriending service, where she offered support to individuals facing mental health challenges.

In the wake of her passing, Grace’s family and friends have come together to honor her memory and continue her legacy of compassion. They initiated the ’22 for Grace’ campaign, a fundraising effort to support mental health services and raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being. The campaign has garnered widespread support, with participants engaging in various activities to raise funds and share messages of hope.

One such initiative is the Manchester Marathon, where friends and supporters are running in Grace’s honor to raise funds for Tyneside and Northumberland Mind. Kate Walker, a childhood friend of Grace, is organizing this marathon run, emphasizing the importance of checking in on loved ones and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. She shared, “Even if you can’t donate, let’s keep Grace’s kind-hearted nature alive by actively being there for one another.”

Grace’s family has expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and kindness from the community. They have been deeply moved by the generosity and compassion shown in honor of Grace’s life. In a statement, they said, “We’ve been blown away with the kindness of people and are really, really grateful to everyone who took part and for all the donations.”

As we remember Grace Elizabeth Nevens, let us celebrate her life by embracing the values she held dear: kindness, empathy, and a commitment to making the world a better place. May her legacy inspire us all to support one another and to continue the vital work of raising awareness about mental health.

Rest in peace, Grace. Your light continues to shine in the hearts of those who loved you.
