Fatal Hit-and-Run Under Investigation in Moncks Corner: One Dead, One Injured
Moncks Corner, SC – The Moncks Corner Police Department is actively investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred late Saturday night, leaving one woman dead and another person injured.
According to MCPD, the collision took place around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 52, when a black Mazda CX5 struck two pedestrians who were walking back to their vehicle. The victims were near their car when they were suddenly hit by the vehicle, which then fled the scene without stopping.
Emergency Medical Services responded promptly to the incident, and both victims were transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, Tonya Frazier, one of the pedestrians, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The second individual survived and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Moncks Corner Police have not released many details about the driver but stated that the black Mazda CX5 involved in the crash likely has significant front-end damage due to the impact. Authorities are urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles matching that description.
“This is a heartbreaking situation for the family and the entire community,” an MCPD spokesperson said. “We are doing everything we can to identify and locate the person responsible for this tragic incident.”
