Fatal Crash in Boone County Claims Life of 75-Year-Old Motorist
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office has released a detailed statement regarding a tragic motor vehicle accident that occurred on Monday, November 17, 2025, shortly before 1 p.m. The collision, which involved multiple heavy trucks and a pickup, took place at the intersection of US Highway 42 and Bleu Yacht Lane in Burlington, Kentucky. The crash resulted in one fatality and prompted an extensive response from law enforcement and emergency personnel.
According to the press release issued by Major Philip Ridgell, spokesperson for the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:58 PM following reports of a serious accident involving entrapment. The Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Boone County Coroner also responded to assist with the investigation.
How the Crash Occurred
A preliminary investigation indicates that the chain-reaction collision began when a 2019 Kenworth dump truck was traveling northbound on US 42 behind a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. As the Silverado slowed to a stop on the roadway, the dump truck—despite clear evidence of braking and what investigators described as an attempt to avoid impact—struck the right rear passenger side of the pickup.
The force of the collision caused the Silverado to veer into the oncoming lane, where it was struck a second time by a 2026 Western Star dump truck traveling southbound on US 42. Both dump trucks were carrying full loads at the time, adding significant force to the collisions.
Victim Identified
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, identified as 75-year-old Hermon Lewis Estes Jr., of Covington, Kentucky, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that his next of kin has been notified.
Fortunately, there were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved. Dash camera footage from both dump trucks captured the collisions, which investigators will review as part of the ongoing analysis.
Other Involved Drivers
Of the two dump truck drivers involved, one was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence for evaluation, while the other declined medical treatment at the scene. No additional injuries were reported.
Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation
Due to the severity of the crash and the need for a thorough investigation, US Highway 42 at the intersection of Bleu Yacht Lane remains closed as deputies continue working to reconstruct the incident and clear the roadway. Motorists in the area were advised to seek alternate routes.
Authorities will release further updates as more information becomes available, but early findings suggest no passengers were involved, both dump trucks were fully loaded, and the Silverado driver suffered fatal injuries upon impact.
