From the Anderson County Office of the Coroner, heartbreaking news has been shared regarding the tragic loss of 23-year-old Ellison Flores-Hernandez of Duncan, South Carolina, whose life ended far too soon following a devastating early-morning wreck in Piedmont.

A Tragic Morning on I-85 South

Just after 2:30 a.m., Anderson County 911 received an emergency call reporting a multi-vehicle collision on I-85 South, near the 37-mile marker. Responders from multiple agencies rushed to the scene, finding a chaotic and extremely serious crash involving four vehicles and ten victims.

Despite the rapid response and heroic efforts of firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement, and emergency medical personnel, one young man tragically was declared deceased at the scene. The remaining nine victims were stabilized and transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

The victim who passed away was identified as Ellison Flores-Hernandez, a 23-year-old with his entire life ahead of him.

Details of the Accident

According to preliminary findings, Ellison was a passenger in a vehicle traveling southbound on I-85 when the driver lost control, resulting in a catastrophic crash. Ellison was not wearing a seatbelt, causing him to be ejected from the vehicle. His cause of death has been ruled as multiple traumatic injuries due to blunt force trauma, and the manner of death has been determined accidental.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.

A Community’s Loss

Ellison’s passing is not just a number in a traffic report—it represents the loss of a son, a friend, a loved one, and a young man with dreams, plans, and potential. Those who knew him describe a caring spirit, a warm smile, and someone who brought light into the lives of others. At just 23 years old, his story should have been far from its final chapter.
