HANSKA, MN — Authorities are urgently searching for a suspect in what is being described as a devastating double homicide that occurred early Sunday morning in rural Hanska. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as 45-year-old Randy Thomas Zimmerman, who is currently at large and considered armed and extremely dangerous.
According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Zimmerman is believed to be responsible for the deaths of 50-year-old Justin Reinhardt and a 32-year-old woman whose identity has not yet been publicly released at this time. Both victims are reported to have died from gunshot wounds inside a residence in rural Hanska.
The tragic incident came to light after Brown County dispatch received a 911 call from a juvenile witness who reported that his mother’s ex-boyfriend had broken into their home and shot his mother. Deputies responded immediately, but both victims were found deceased upon arrival. The heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the call have shaken the local community, prompting an outpouring of sadness, fear, and support for the surviving family.
Authorities report that Zimmerman was last seen at the scene of the homicide wearing a black or camouflage-style jacket, black pants, black shoes, and a black baseball-style cap, and was carrying a long gun. He is believed to be driving a black 2013 Toyota Camry, Minnesota license plate 2GU 817. At this time, investigators believe he may still be in Minnesota but could also have traveled to nearby states.

Local residents across Brown County and surrounding areas are being urged to stay cautious and remain alert. Law enforcement emphasizes that no one should attempt to approach or confront Zimmerman if he is seen. Due to the severity of the situation and the potential risk to the public, authorities are strongly advising community members to take safety precautions and report any suspicious sightings immediately.
“This individual is considered armed and dangerous,” the Sheriff’s Office noted in a public advisory. “If you encounter Randy Zimmerman or have any information regarding his location, do not engage. Call law enforcement immediately.”
The tragic loss of life has left the communities of Hanska, Courtland, and surrounding areas grieving deeply. Friends, neighbors, and family members mourn not only the deaths but the terrifying circumstances under which they occurred. Support is being extended to the surviving child who made the call for help, as the community comes together in shock and sorrow.
