In Loving Memory of Brycey “Brix” Forever Young • Forever Loved • A Life of Kindness Gone Too Soon
PUEBLO, CO — The south side of Pueblo is grieving a heartbreaking and senseless loss after a young man, known and loved by many as Brycey “Brix”, was tragically shot and killed early Saturday morning — just one day before his 20th birthday. What should have been a celebration of life, growth, and new beginnings has instead become a moment of deep sorrow and reflection for family, friends, and the community who cherished him.
At approximately 2:25 a.m., Brycey had just left a gathering in the Belmont area. Witnesses say an argument had taken place earlier, though much remains unclear. When he arrived near the Uplands Townhomes on Pueblo’s south side — a place he did not live — he reportedly saw a couple in the middle of a heated dispute. And true to the heart he carried, he stepped in to help, to calm the situation, to protect someone in need.
That choice — a choice rooted in empathy, in courage, in the desire to do right — cost him his life.
Gunshots rang out. Neighbors later recalled hearing many rounds be fired. Detectives worked for hours, marking bullet casings and evidence across the scene. Some neighbors saw Brycey’s body before it was covered, a sight forever etched in their memory — a reminder of just how fragile and precious life is.
The alleged shooter has since been arrested and is facing first-degree murder charges. But even accountability cannot fill the hole left in the hearts of those who loved Brycey. The Pueblo community is left to mourn a life cut short, a future stolen, and a family shattered.
Who Brycey Was
Brycey was the kind of young man people remembered — not because he needed attention, but because his spirit spoke for itself. He was kind, easygoing, deeply loyal, and full of life. He loved hard. He laughed big. He cared for others with a sincerity that is rare in this world. And even in moments of conflict, he chose peace. He chose understanding. He chose to help.
He should be here today.
He should be celebrating his birthday.
He should be surrounded by love, laughter, plans, music, and future dreams.
Instead, his family now mourns a son they will never hold again.
His friends now mourn a brother they will never laugh with again.
The community mourns a young life that should have had decades ahead.
The Pain of This Loss
There are simply no words strong enough to capture the grief felt right now. The pain is raw. The shock is overwhelming. The finality is cruel.
A mother’s heart is broken.
A father’s world has shifted.
Friends are left replaying memories, wishing for just one more moment.
Yet, through the heartbreak, there is love — a love that speaks his name, that shares his stories, that keeps his spirit present in every conversation, every tear, every smile that remembers him.
A Community Reflects
The tragedy also brings a painful awareness: violence continues to take sons, brothers, cousins, and friends from Pueblo far too soon. Communities should be places of safety, growth, and support — yet too many families have felt this exact pain.
But Brycey’s memory deserves more than grief — it deserves action, healing, and a commitment to honoring the kind of person he was.
He stepped in to stop harm.
He acted from love.
He led with love.
Let us remember him the same way.
Rest in Peace, Brycey “Brix”
