The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has officially confirmed that the case involving the death of 18-year-old Lawrence Wilson is now being investigated as a homicide. Wilson, a Hammond resident, tragically succumbed to his injuries after suffering a gunshot wound to the head on Monday, September 29, 2025.
According to investigators, the incident began unfolding late Monday afternoon when TPSO received reports of shots being fired between two vehicles in the 13000 block of Miley Niquiporo Road. Not long after, a second call came in regarding gunfire exchanged near the intersection of Highway 1064 and Rufus Bankston Road. At first, no injuries were reported in either case. However, just before 4 p.m., Wilson was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save him, the young man later passed away, leaving his family and community devastated.
Authorities also addressed earlier speculation surrounding an individual who brought Wilson to the hospital. The person, now identified and cleared, was acting as a good Samaritan. Investigators confirmed that this individual had no involvement in the shooting itself and was simply trying to ensure Wilson received urgent medical care.
As detectives continue to piece together the events that led to Wilson’s death, they are pursuing several active leads. At this time, investigators believe the shooting incidents reported on Miley Niquiporo Road and near Rufus Bankston Road are connected to Wilson’s fatal injuries. The Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in solving the case.
“This investigation is a top priority, and we need the community’s help,” officials stated. “Even the smallest detail could make a difference.”
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the shooting or the circumstances surrounding Lawrence Wilson’s death to contact the Criminal Investigations Office at 985-902-2088.
