Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Crash in Town of Venice

Venice, N.Y. — The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 94-year-old woman Tuesday afternoon in the Town of Venice.

According to investigators, the crash occurred around 2:19 p.m. on September 30, 2025. A silver Toyota Corolla, traveling eastbound on Poplar Ridge Road, failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and was struck by a dump truck traveling north on Route 34B.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, Elizabeth MacCormick, age 94, tragically died at the scene as a result of the collision.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured and remained at the scene, fully cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

Multiple agencies responded to assist, including Sheriff’s deputies, first responders, and investigators. At this time, no charges have been filed, and the incident remains under review.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward. Witnesses or individuals with relevant details are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 315-253-1222.
